What is an Email List & Why You Need One
Your email list is the collection of people who opted in to hear from you. Unlike Facebook followers or Instagram subscribers, these people gave you permission to contact them directly. Think of it as the one audience you own — not rented from Facebook or Google. If those platforms change their rules or ban your account tomorrow, your email list is still yours. That's why it's the most valuable asset in your business.

Try Mailchimp Free →Common Questions
Is Mailchimp really free for 500 contacts?
Yes. Mailchimp's free plan is genuinely free with 500 contact limit and 1,000 emails per month. No hidden fees, no time limit. When you hit 500, upgrade to a paid plan ($20+/mo) or clean out inactive contacts to stay free.
Do I need my own website to use Mailchimp?
No, but it helps. You can collect emails through a website signup form, Facebook lead form, a free landing page builder, QR code sign-ups, or even manually. Many solopreneurs start by manually collecting emails in person or on social media.
Why is email better than Facebook or Instagram?
You own your email list. Facebook and Instagram can ban your account, change algorithms, or charge you for reach. Your email list is yours forever. Plus, email gets 5-10× better ROI than social media ads for most small businesses.
How often should I email my list?
Start with once per month. As you build confidence, try biweekly or weekly. Monitor unsubscribes — if they spike after sends, you're emailing too much. Most successful small businesses email 1-2 times per month.
